Early, often and throughout the game.
It was the story of the opener of the second round of the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament Thursday in Greensboro as No. 5 Virginia Tech had their way with No. 13 Clemson, 82-60.
The Hokies came out on fire hitting their first six shots and took a 12-2 lead in just over three minutes. They didn’t slow down until the question was no longer in doubt as they scored 25 points in the first and second quarters apiece. .
Much of Virginia Tech’s dominance came from beyond the arc as they were 9-19 from there and Clemson went all game without a three.
Aisha Sheppard led all scorers with 20 points for Virginia Tech while Elizabeth Kitley (19) Kayana Traylor (16) and Georgia Amoore (15) combined for 50 more. Delicia Washington led Clemson with 19.
Virginia Tech improves to 23-8 overall with the win and advances to battle No. 4 North Carolina in the quarterfinals on Friday. Clemson ends its year 10-21 overall and 3-15 in the ACC.
