The Delaware Hayes women’s basketball team has seen decades of accomplishment.

Led by senior Chloe Jeffers, the Pacers made their first appearance in a district championship game in 30 years.

Delaware, which last played for a district title in 1992 when it spent one season in Division II, lost to top seed Reynoldsburg 61-38 on Feb. 26 at Ohio Dominican to finish 21- 5 in total.

“More than anything, I’m just going to remember the girls,” coach Lou Tiberi said. “The maturity and willingness to play this hard again and again and stick to what we were trying to do was just remarkable.”

Ranked 10th in Division I, the Pacers earned their first tournament win since 2013 by beating 26th seed Thomas Worthington 77-41 on Feb. 15 in the first round. Jeffers scored 41 points to set the program’s single-game record for the second time this season.
